CPSIA

My Etsy Mini this week is showcasing several artists who will be dramatically affected by the upcoming CPSIA legislation. They are only a VERY small sampling of the talented artists who are going to be squashed by this giant and unforgiving governing body who does not distinguish between giant toy sweatshops in China, and Joe Smith in Wachita who carves toys cars in his garage as a hobby.

If you have questions on how CPSIA will affect your business, please contact the Small Business Ombudsman using the information above.
As of this time, there have been NO exceptions made for handcrafted, one-of-a-kind goods - ALL items intended for children under the age of 12 MUST be tested for lead content by a certified 3rd party. This includes everything from dolls to clothing, hair ribbons to minkee blankets and toys.

The dolls I make are primarily art dolls, so I will definitely be marking them as NOT intended for children under the age of 12.
As a Canadian, I cannot do much about the CPSIA regulations that will be coming into effect.
I am posting this here in hopes that my readers will take a moment to express their concern over this new legislation that will cripple home based businesses.

This is very sad. I can definitely see how expensive and frustrating this will be for small businesses. Yikes!

Thanks for stopping by my blog tonight. It is very nice to meet YOU! I do quite a bit of shopping on Etsy. I love handcrafted items!

Best Blessings, KJ

I'm pretty worried about this -- not just because I'll have to drop my kid's jewelry line, but because I won't be able to find handmade things that I LOVE anymore.
